When purchasing a ring for your significant other, choose a piece that is beautiful and emblematic of your relationship. Three-stone rings are among the grandest rings on the market. These stunning pieces are suitable for engagement and anniversary rings since they represent the depths of the love you share. Three-stone rings are a great option when you have extra money to spend, as the extra diamonds increase their cost.
Meaning
Symbolism is the most important reason to purchase a three-stone ring. The rings represent the past, present, and future of a relationship. A statement of this magnitude will show your significant other that the love you share is eternal. In addition to making her feel special, the extra diamonds will give the ring three times the sparkle.
Design
Three-stone engagement rings typically feature a large center diamond and two smaller diamonds on each side. Most diamonds on a three-stone ring feature the same cut and color. But some rings are designed with three diamonds featuring the identical size, cut and color. Round brilliant-cut diamonds are the most common, followed by princess-cut and emerald-cut stones.
To customize your design, use a colored center stone, such as a fancy yellow diamond or black diamond, flanked by two colorless diamonds on each side. The alternating colors will make the center diamond appear larger and more striking. Another option is to flank an emerald-cut center stone with unique, small diamonds cuts such as trapezoid or baguette.
The Band
Select a precious metal that will complement your ring. Platinum and white gold are the most versatile as they flatter colored and colorless diamonds equally. Platinum is the most durable, striking and expensive, while white gold gives the refined look of platinum at a cheaper price. Yellow gold looks best with colorless diamonds, and gives the ring an antique flair.
Design options include shimmering bands encrusted with micro-pave diamonds, split shank bands studded with brilliant-cut diamonds and simple polished metal bands.

Diamonds can occur in range of colors, and fancy yellow is among the most coveted. The distinctive
shade of a yellow diamond is derived from the presence of nitrogen during its formation. The color can
range from a pale sun-kissed hue to a deep canary yellow. In honor of the upcoming yellow diamond
collection display in Toronto, we turn our attention to some of the finest yellow diamonds in the world.
Famous Yellow Diamonds
“The Allnatt” is arguably the most famous fancy yellow diamond in the world. The 101.29-carat stone
is graded a Fancy Vivid Yellow by the Gemological Institute of America. The diamond dates back to
the 1940s, when it was thought to be unearthed in a South African diamond mine. Named after one
of its early owners, Major Ernest Allnatt, the striking diamond was sold at auction in 1996 to the SIBA
Corporation for a whopping $3.1 million.
The Allnatt is currently on display at the Smithsonian Natural Museum of Natural History’s “Splendor of
Diamonds” exhibit in Washington DC.
Back in 1953, Hollywood-icon Marilyn Monroe turned heads at the premiere of “Gentlemen Prefer
Blondes” with a jaw-dropping, 24-carat, canary yellow, pear-shaped diamond. Named the “Moon of
Baroda,” the diamond was originally owned by the Maharajas of Baroda and stayed in his family’s
possession for nearly 500 years. The eye-catching stone was given to Monroe by Detroit jeweler Meyer
Rosenbaum.
“American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez recently made headlines by sporting a 50-carat, Cora’s fancy
yellow radiant diamond ring. Lopez flashed the $2.1 million eye-popper during an episode of “American
Idol.” The striking piece is set on an 18K gold band.
